Penn State Boston raises funds annually to support our chapter scholarship, which is awarded to a select number of local students who are entering their freshman year at Penn State. Members can support this fundraising through activities at social events and most notably our annual Spring Social.
Our Chapter scholarship is need-based and eligible recipients are notified of their eligibility via mail in June. Scholarship applications are due back between mid-July and early August.
Scholarship winners are chosen by a committee of alumni and are announced at the annual Student Send Off or notified by phone and/or email.
THON is a student-run philanthropy that works to support children and their families who are impacted by pediatric cancer. Their mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness and ensure funding for critical research. Thousands of student volunteers work throughout the year to plan and fundraise, and their efforts culminate in a 46-hour no-sleeping and no-sitting dance marathon in February. THON's yearlong efforts culminate with a 46 hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon known as THON Weekend. This event is held at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center each year in the month of February. Since 1977, THON has raised over $127 million to benefit the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
Penn State Boston is actively involved in THON - each year we host a THON Trivia Night event where 100% of proceeds benefit THON.
Penn State Boston is also the proud host of Boston's Night of Hope, which continues our efforts to raise money and awareness of THON in the Greater Boston area.
