Beth and Ian Rickenbach have been active members in the Penn State Greater Boston Chapter since they moved here, and they each served as a member of the Chapter Executive Board. We asked them to tell us what brought them to the city and about a few of their favorite places to spend time and things to do both here in Boston and during their time at Penn State. Read more: http://eepurl.com/cc1J45 Beth and Ian Rickenbach have been active members in the Penn State Greater Boston Chapter since they moved here, and they each recently served as a member of the Chapter Executive Board. Beth was Membership Chair and Ian was University Relations Chair, but they have moved on to other adventures. (They left big shoes to fill, but we believe our new Board Members are up for the challenge!) We asked Beth and Ian to tell us what brought them to the city and about a few of their favorite places to spend time and things to do both here in Boston and during their time at Penn State. Beth and Ian moved to Boston nearly four years ago when Beth found a job in the area, and Ian transferred to the city shortly after. Beth studied human development at Penn state and Ian was a mechanical engineering major. Beth currently works at Saint Anselm College as an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department, and Ian works at Gillette. The Rickenbachs say they have loved living here; the city is the perfect size, and they love being so close to mountains, hiking, and the outdoors when they need a respite from city life. In May they welcomed a baby boy, Jack, to their family. They've spent the summer getting to know their son and starting to stock up on his Penn State gear! What is your favorite way to spend a weekend day in Boston? Walking with our dog to Boston bagel company, Hanging out at M street beach in Southie, and grilling on our back porch afterwards. When you're not in Boston, what do you miss most about the city? We love being so close to the ocean. And being in a city we can easily walk around in. What is your favorite place to take friends to when they're in town? Walking around castle island, Harpoon and Aeronaut breweries and James hook for lobster rolls! How did you find out about the PSU Boston Chapter? We were both active in volunteering at Penn state-so we both looked up the chapter info once we got to the city. We looked forward to getting involved and meeting fellow Penn Staters since we were both new to the area. What has been your favorite PSU Boston event? We love the trivia night fundraiser for THON. Although we are biased since we have been helping plan that event the last couple years. What are you most looking forward to doing with the Chapter this year? With a new baby it will be fun to get a babysitter and get out to a happy hour one of these days! Where was your favorite place to study while you were a student at Penn State, and why? Beth: Mine was at the library. Ian: The hub upstairs at the desks. What is your favorite Penn State bar or restaurant, and why? We both love cafe 210-being outside on the back porch and dancing to live bands were some of my favorite memories at Penn state. Ian worked as a bartender there, so we both have spent lots of time (probably too much!) there! What is your favorite Penn State sports memory, and why? Beth: Sitting right up front and then rushing the field after we beat Ohio state during a night football game in 2005. I quickly regretted it though when we were getting pushed off the field by massive crowds of people and police. Ian: Road tripping to Alabama for the PSU game. Although the actual game wasn't much to remember the experience was incredible. Best place to see a game away from Happy Valley. Thanks for Joining us at our Annual Freshmen Sendoff Picnic!
