Freshmen Send-off and Family Picnic

Dozens of students eager to bleed blue and white gathered at Don Noble’s house on Saturday, August 8, 2009 for the annual Freshmen Send-off and Family Picnic. Alumni volunteers and current students teamed up with Board Members Gail Wick and Allison Kerivan to host this event. Altogether just under 100 people were present for this event.

The incoming freshmen headed to all Penn State campuses were able to meet other students from the Boston area who would make up the Class of 2014. Students were also able to ask any last minute questions and advice from the alumni and Penn State Admissions Counselor, Kelly Praskovich.

All those who attended were entered to win door prizes and a $50 gift certificate for the bus the New England Alumni Chapters provide to bring students home for the holidays. Families were also introduced to the many other events the Boston Chapter hosts throughout the year.

Families were encouraged to bring a dish to share, while the chapter provided hot dogs and hamburgers for all to enjoy. The day would not have been a complete success without the annual volleyball match among the students. The chapter looks forward to great weather and turn out for next year’s Send-off. Thank you to all who participated and volunteered!
