Minutes
Attendance:
Andrea Pollock
Cristy Donnelly
Elliot Norton
Jeannine Castelbuono
Lisa Fanelli

Meeting Called to Order by Lisa Fanelli at 7:14

Budget
  • Andrea gave the Balance
  • Biggest point of concern is that membership due are way down: only 48% of projected membership annual income. Over $2000 behind prior years, as of end of Feb.
  • Expenses are on target
Christy: Ideas about why membership is down?
Andrea: In past years, a hard-copy newsletter was sent out. Newsletter included offer for Red Sox tickets.

Networking Lunch
  • Have been having trouble with low attendance for networking lunches. Those who do attend frequently need a job.
  • Career networking event, partner with another school to do a “speed networking clinic”
  • After work networking event
  • List of available jobs through PSU network exclusively for PSU Alumni
  • Pot luck dinner for networking

Membership
  • Cross reference Y/Y membership lists and personally contact members that have not renewed
  • Discussed allowing discounts to individuals based on need
  • General consensus from group was that providing more opportunities for discounts to events will encourage membership
  • Points for discussion: Building Grad Student Discount, creating “annual membership donation” versus “annual membership fee”, “tell a friend membership” discount

Spring Social Committee Report notes by: Jeff Baltzer
  • Guest speaker:  I am waiting on confirmation from a potential guest speaker.  His name is Carl Berquist.  He is a member of the Smeal College of Business Board of Visitors and serves as Marriott’s Chief Accounting Officer.  He will be promoted to be the Chief Financial Officer on May 1.  Attendance is not confirmed, he said is checking his schedule and will hopefully be able to attend.
  • I need a list of those who volunteered to help for the spring social.
  • Andrea, can I get weekly updates on who has paid for the event? Andrea confirmed this request.
  • I am considering getting rid of the early bird deadline if strong attendance numbers don’t materialize.  Thoughts from the board? Board agreed.
  • Spring Social Discussion
    • Priority to have an internet connection and laptops for silent auction at event to pay on-line
    • Membership drive tied to Spring Social
    • Need more people to commit to attending the event
    • Promotional emails should include guest speaker and number of alumni attending to build excitement.

Nominations Chair
  • We’re accepting nominations for positions
  • Any nominees should include short synopsis of individual
  • Andrea requested to create an “Associate Treasurer” position. She would like someone that will be willing to do the job for more than one year and someone that could learn the role from Andrea.
